Baptiste Lake

Baptiste Lake is located in Herschel township, Bancroft.  This lake is approx 2226 hectares and part of a three lake chain with Benoir and Elephant Lakes.  It offers some 36 miles of boating.  The maximum depth is about 32 meters.  Fish species include Lake Trout, Muskellunge, Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass and Walleye.  

The lake has had a few different names throughout it's history.  Kaijick Manitou, Loon Lake, Long Lake, and then finally was named Baptiste Lake after Cheif Jean Baptiste, whose family is believed to be the first original residents of the area.
